February 2019


2019 ARKO International Symposium
Venue: Blue Square
Date: 26 – 27 February, 2019
Event: A symposium on governmental policies on art and culture, as well as the relationship between artists and institutions. Hosted by Arts Council Korea and information sharing by the Danish Agency for Culture and the artistic director of Kunsthal Aarhus. Denmark is featured on the second day.


March 2019

Elmgreen & Dragset
Venue: Kukje Gallery K2, K3
Date: 21 March – 28 April, 2019
Event: The first solo exhibition of the artists Elmgreen & Dragset at Kukje Gallery. This is the second major exhibition by the Scandinavian artist duo in Korea since their first show at PLATEAU, Samsung Museum of Art in 2015.


April 2019

Asger Jorn, Alternative Languages
 12 April – 8 September, 2019
Venue: Museum of Modern Contemporary Art, Seoul
Event: The first ever exhibition in Korea on Danish artist and social activist Asger Jorn. The exhibition will feature artwork, photographs, as well as a look at his legacy as a social activitist. Held in partnership with the Jorn Museum and supported by A. P. Møller Foundation.


May 2019

Hans Christian Andersen and Copenhagen – A 19th century capital seen through fairy
Date: 25 April – 14 July, 2019
Venue: Seoul Museum of History
Event: A special exhibition about the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen featuring a look at the cities of Copenhagen and Odense through his eyes and his fairy tales. Held in partnership with the Odense City Museum.


Guest of Honor 
Venue: Nami Island
Event: An exhibition featuring illustrations for Hans Christian Andersen’s stories by Her Majesty The Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. The exhibition will also display Andersen’s own paper artwork as well as works by Korean and Danish illustrators inspired by Andersen’s fairy tales. In addition, Denmark will participate as a guest of honor and there will be a special performance by a Danish children’s theatre group, ‘Mish Mash’.

Publication of <Billedbog uden Billder>
Event: Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen’s book, <Billedbog uden Billder> (A Picture Book without Pictures), will be published in Korea featuring special illustrations by the Danish illustrator Lillian Broegger. Published by Sigongsa Junior.


Uijeongbu International Music Theater Festival
Venue: Hall of Uijeongbu Arts
Date: 18 – 19 May, 2019

Event: Theatre Company Sansuyu and Out of Balanz will be participating in the closing performance at 2019 Uijeongbu International Music Theater Festival. Their project, ‘Moving Stories’ will be questioning human rights centering on the issue of refugees.


July 2019

ASSITEJ International Summer Festival
Venue: Daehakro Theatre, Sejong Center for Performing Arts

Date: 24 July – 4 August, 2019
Event: ASSITEJ Korea’s annual summer festival will feature performances by Danish children’s theatre groups. Held in partnership with Teatrecentrum and ASSITEJ Korea.


September 2019

Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism
Venue: Various venues
Date: 6 September – 10 November, 2019

Event: Danish films and talks regarding city and architecture will be featured during the biennale.

Venue: Art Sonje Center

Date: 19 September – 10 November, 2019
Event: Group exhibition curated by Jacob Fabricius, the Artistic Director of the Kunsthal Aarhus in Denmark. This exhibition features Korean, Danish and international artists’ absurd and dystopian portrayals of our current era. Held in partnership with Kunsthal Aarhus.

Venue: National Gugak Center

Date: 19 September, 2019
Event: Sori Percussion and SNYK(National Centre for Contemporary Music and Sound)’s collaboration project will be performed in National Gugak Center. The collaboration is intended to create a platform for cultural exchange between traditional Korean music and contemporary Danish music.

Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale Korea
Venue: Icheon World Ceramic Center, Icheon Cerapia
Date: 27 September – 24 November, 2019
Event: Biennale featuring a Mentoring Camp & Artist Talk by four Danish ceramists.


October 2019

Jarasum International Jazz Festival
Venue: Jarasum

Date: 4 – 6 October, 2019
Event: The annual jazz festival will feature many Danish acts. Held in partnership with Jazz Denmark.

Cheongju International Craft Biennale – Crafted Matter
Venue: Old Cheongju Tobacco Processing Plant
Date: 8 October – 17 November, 2019
Event: Denmark participates as a guest country at ‘2019 Cheongju International Crafted Biennale – Crafted Matter’ showcasing the essence of Danish artwork with design and craft. Workshop in collaboration with Danish artists and Cheongju University.

Seoul International Dance Festival (SIDance 2019)
Event: A joint project between Park Nahoon and Kitt Johnson, ‘Noisy Neighborhood’ will be featured during the Seoul International Dance Festival 2019.


November 2019

KF Global Film Week : Denmark (“Unifying the World through Storytelling)
Venue: KF Global Center
Event:  A joint effort by the Innovation Centre Denmark, Seoul of the Embassy of Denmark in Korea, the Korea Foundation, and Denmark’s VIA Animation Workshop. The film week focusing on Denmark will run for a month throughout November, featuring a colourful repertoire of animated shorts created by animators at The Animation Workshop and featuring music by the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra. This event is free of charge. Guests are required to register at KF in advance.


New Music Festival – ATM (Audio Training Manual)
Venue: Oil Tank Culture Park
Event: KLANG curating program will take place at the New Music Festival – ATM, held by Arts Incubator at Oil Tank Culture Park, Seoul. The program will feature performances by Danish artists as well as seminars. 

December 2019

Danish Royal Orchestra
Venue: Seoul Arts Center
Date: 8 December, 2019
Event: Danish Royal Orchestra will be performing in the Seoul Arts Center
